From the Ellerslie International Flower Show to tree planting ceremonies, vegetable gardens, butterlfy gardens, and worm farms, children nationwide are digging in and giving it a grow! Shooting Star, Cool Kids Grow (CKG) ambassador, Irene van Dyk is thrilled to be visiting more schools than ever to help inspire, encourage and support childrens outdoor adventures. From sowing Yates seeds, planting trees to composting, recycling and loads of cool DIY kids activities, Irene is delighted to be digging in with school children to give it a grow! Not only is Irene our world’s number one goal shooter, she is a teacher, so spending time with children in a school environment is second nature to her! Schools registered with Cool Kids Grow are being drawn from a database starting with the Lower North Island and Waikato regions. ‘I love getting involved in a 'hands on' way with children in there school gardens! I’ve seen so many amazing Cool Kids Grow prize winning school gardens over years, and have already planted a few trees too! Playing netball can be hard work, but I never see it as “work” as we all “play sport’, gardening can be the same! Kids get loads of exercise and its as challenging as you want it to be. From planting a sunflower teppe, making a bird feeder to designing, building, and sowing a butterfly garden. Children not only learn to care for the environment, they learn to play as a team.”!
